Everyday at work, I get to listen to the radio, which happens to be tuned to Jack FM, here in Calgary. During that time I get to hear quite a variety of radio advertisements.
There is one particular set of adverts, that I hate the most. They are the ones for The Bay department stores. Bonnie Brooks who is the President of The Bay, has taken it upon herself, to be the narrator in all of them. No trained acting professional required, as Bonnie thinks she's perfect for the job. This would be okay if she didn't sound like a chainsmoking eighty year old.
When i first started to hear the adverts, I couldn't believe my ears. So much in fact, that I decided to check the internet, to see if I was correct in my assumption about Bonnie. Luckily, I came across a Macleans Magazine artilce on the web entitled 'Bonnie of The Bay', and I was very much suprised by the picture that accompained it. Low and behold she was absolutely nothing liked I had imagined at all.
I was no the only one, who had a bad opinion of her vocal talents, going by the amount of feedback that was posted below the article. Ninety percent of people also couldn't believe their ears and had also decided to "check her out".
Bonnie please do everybody a favour and "butt out" of the advertisement business and leave it to a proffessional. One who's voice doesn't sound like nails being drawn across a chalkboard.
Check out the article as see what other people have to say on the matter.
